L-Lysine - Benefits

L-Lysine can be extremely beneficial for cats, particularly for those with Feline Herpesvirus (FHV-1), a common viral infection in cats that can cause respiratory issues and eye problems. It is an amino acid that can help inhibit the replication of the virus and support the immune system.

It's important to know that FHV-1 cannot be cured. The good news is that if treated properly, it’s very manageable, and many cats live totally normal and comfortable lives with it.

Immune Support
L-Lysine can help enhance the immune response, which can be beneficial for cats with respiratory and eye infections. It is often given to cats with seasonal allergies.

Viral Infections - FHV-1
It is often used as a supplement for cats with Feline Herpesvirus 1 (FHV-1) to help reduce the severity and frequency of outbreaks.

Side Effects
While L-Lysine is generally safe, some cats may experience gastrointestinal upset or other minor side effects. If this occurs, symptoms usually clear up within a few days.

Dosage Info

The recommended dosage for the gel/powder can vary, but it's generally 250mg to 500mg twice a day, depending on the cat's age, weight and health status. If needed, please consult with a veterinarian for specific recommendations.

Note: If your cat does not like the smell or taste of the gel (my cat wouldn't touch it), use the powder instead and dose by mixing the powder in their wet food. As a last resort if they don't like the taste, you can try using a 10ml dosing syringe with a quarter inch or so of water and squirt it in their mouth.
